Jackson Layoffs: A Statement From President Martha Baker, RN
We need to get to the bottom of the problems at Jackson. No employee should be cut until Jackson figures out how to produce and collect on bills. The healthcare workers are the one aspect of Jackson that is working. How dare they cut there first. The public deserves better!
Staffing of nurses and doctors has already been cut to the bare bones and safety is becoming an issue. Further cuts will put patients’ lives at risk.
These layoffs are a distraction of the gross mismanagement that has recently become apparent at Jackson.
The real question is how did this happen and who is responsible?
Jackson’s dire financial situation is the responsibility of the executives and PHT Board members who have been at the helm watching this crisis coming for the past few years. They allowed mismanagement and fiscal responsibility to flourish and did nothing to correct the course. Dr. Roldan has been a high-ranking executive at Jackson for nearly three years now. How did Jackson’s business side become such a mess? Someone needs to be held accountable for our public dollars.
The public has a right to know the truth about our public hospital. The services to the public should be the last thing to be cut. We need to know where all the money is being spent and we need to know now.
