POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
SEIU Local 1991 is an active, growing, progressive healthcare union based in South Florida. The local currently represents Registered Nurses, physicians, medical professionals, technicians, and service and maintenance workers at three major healthcare institutions in South Florida. In addition, the Local is currently conducting several organizing drives. Staff will have the opportunity to become part of building this flagship healthcare local in the South.

POSITION:
FIELD REPRESENTATIVE/ORGANIZER
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Field Representative/Organizer will be responsible for representing and organizing RNs and other workers in South Florida hospitals. Major areas of responsibility include contract administration, leadership development, internal organizing and contract campaigns. Some contract negotiating may be required, depending on experience, as will labor management committee coordination and other creative problem solving. This staff member will be expected, within an organizing model, to represent workers in all phases of workplace disputes, with an emphasis on teaching stewards and activists to interpret the contract, handle grievances, coordinate worksite actions and member participation, and build the Union inside their hospitals.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in Union organizing and worker representation is required. Experience as a rank-and-file steward/activist is desirable, as is experience in the healthcare field or with healthcare workers.

A valid drivers’ license, car and auto insurance are required as a condition of employment.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Competitive salary depending on experience, health insurance, holidays, vacation, pension, car allowance.
