Nationwide, more than 40,000 doctors belong to unions today - an increase of 60 percent over the last several years. The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is America's largest union for doctors, representing 20,000 physicians across the country.

SEIU Local 1991 represents all employees employed by the Public Health Trust at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami Dade, under the titles of regular full-time and part-time Attending Physicians and Dentists.

The Local 1991 union's contract at Jackson Memorial Hospital achieves Attending Physicians better benefits and a guaranteed voice in any restructuring or proposed changes in policies and procedures.
