YOUR INPUT IS KEY IN DEVELOPING NEW JHS STAFFING RATIOS POLICY
Member input on safe staffing ratios in critical care units was a key component in discussion with management regarding the JHS Staffing Ratios Policy that is under development per our SEIU/JHS RN contract. The new policy will establish Nurse Staffing Ratios for JHS’s hospitals and facilities.
“Safe nurse to patient ratios in our hospitals has been a goal of our nurse members and all practicing nurses across the country for a long time,” said SEIU President Martha Baker, RN. “It is a very labor intensive project to develop this safe staffing ratio policy at JHS, but our results will be groundbreaking and our patients and all healthcare practitioners will be better off due to our collective efforts.”
Today we began presenting information regarding what our members consider to be safe staffing ratios unit by unit. We also continued discussion of relevant published research and evidence regarding safe staffing.
As consensus is reached among our members regarding the safe staffing ratio on each unit, we will present this information in upcoming meetings. Mental Health is slated to be discussed at the next meeting.
If you have not yet completed a yellow “Establishing Safe Nurse Patient Ratios” flyer or signed off on the consensus form for your unit, please see the SEIU leader on your floor or your SEIU rep.
