Members Kick Off Political Season at West Palm Beach Conference!

MPO Conference

Local 1991 members traveled to West Palm Beach on Saturday, July 24 to participate in the Democracy at Work conference where attendees received the latest updates on political races and learned the importance of voting in the upcoming  elections. About 500 SEIU members from across Florida attended the daylong conference.

The day started with a special presentation from our President Martha Baker, RN, who spoke about our Local's fight to save Jackson, which drew rounds of applause from other union members.

Our group then attended a series of political workshops such as COPE and volunteer recruitment, targeting voters, communications, budget and lobbying and immigration.

The day closed with keynote speaker Congressman Kendrick Meek, who is running for U.S. Senate. Meek spoke about some of his key issues, including support for veterans, better employee wages and his commitment to SEIU members.
