Patient Care at Jackson is at Stake

Some Cuts Won't Heal

PHT Board members asked repeatedly at the Financial and Budget committee last month how much money Jackson has on hand and exactly how it’s spent. Amazingly, highly paid administrators could not answer the questions! They could only say they are hoping auditors who are reviewing the books will be able to tell the Board where the money is...and that work won't be done until March!
Right after that report, just as we suspected, Jackson management once again demonstrated it's incompetence by suggesting the only place to fill what could be an $80 million deficit is to turn to the employees and the services they provide.  How dare they look to the nurses, doctors and healthcare professionals to give back and sacrifice the care of their patients when Jackson doesn't even know how much money they have or how its spent!!
"How about they cut the salaries of the all the VPs until they figure out how to run a hospital," SEIU Local 1991 President Martha Baker, RN, told PHT Board members.
Our union has been offering for months to work with Jackson to bring in what could potentially be $50 to $100 million in additional Medicaid dollars. It would take a joint political effort to achieve this recurring annual money but unbelievably Jackson has shown no interest in working with us to get it. We want to know why!
Here's what you can do: Complete the online survey today! If the adminstrators can't find out how the public dollars are spent, we will tell them.
